As Easter approached, I found myself without any confirmed travel plans. My close friends, tied up with work commitments except for Easter and Christmas, urged me to organize a getaway. Researching flight options, I was taken aback by the prices! I was determined to find an affordable destination I hadn't explored yet.
Verona and Juliet's House: A Love Story Worth Exploring
And so, my journey led me back to the heart of Italy, to the enchanting city of Verona. My familiarity with Verona was limited; predominantly, it stood as the iconic backdrop to the timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet, etching its place as the abode of literature's most renowned lovers.
With a delightful three-day itinerary awaiting me, I promptly secured a flight with WIZZ AIR destined for the airport in close proximity to Verona. Upon touching down, I hopped onto a bus bound for Ponte Nuovo station—an integral railway hub conveniently situated near the heart of the city, easily reached by a short bus ride or a leisurely stroll of just two stops. Our chosen residence was the welcoming Hotel Fiera, a comfortable base from which we set out to unravel the secrets of the city.
Verona, though petite in size, revealed its charm through ease of exploration on foot. The tourist foot traffic was comparatively modest, setting it apart from the bustling Italian counterparts. Yet, a magnetic force drew the attention of all visitors—the allure of Juliet's House. Although we had not meticulously planned specific visits, the magnetic pull of Juliet's House was undeniable.
To enter this ancient residence, nestled among Verona's oldest structures, one had to traverse a tunnel adorned with countless notes penned to Juliet or cherished loved ones. As much as we sought to immerse ourselves in the city's ambiance and essence, it felt almost obligatory to ascend the steps leading to Juliet's House.
A nominal fee of 6 euros granted admission, allowing visitors to step back in time within the confines of this historic abode. Dedicated computers within the premises facilitated the sending of heartfelt messages to Juliet, adding a modern touch to the bygone era that the interiors so beautifully captured. However, the undisputed highlight of the house was the famed balcony—a pilgrimage site for enthusiasts seeking the perfect photograph.
While the ladies gracefully ascended to the balcony, we opted to linger in the inner courtyard, capturing these timeless moments through the lens of our cameras. Each snapshot immortalized our experience, forever etching the memory of Juliet's House in Verona within our hearts.

Our explorations continued through the celebrated squares of Verona, each bearing its own unique charm and history. Piazza dei Signori and Piazza Dante, named after the illustrious poet Dante Alighieri, stood as cultural landmarks where we immersed ourselves in the city's rich heritage. The warm rays of the spring sun bathed Piazza Vecchia, adding a golden glow to its surrounding buildings, captivating our senses and imprinting a delightful memory.
At the heart of Verona, Piazza Bra unfolded before us—a central square bustling with the vibrant energy of cafes, bars, artists, and actors. Here, one could lose themselves in the lively ambiance and revel in the city's artistic soul. The square also proudly hosted the Roman Arena, a historic marvel that could be explored for a nominal fee of just 10 euros per person. Renowned for its exceptional acoustics, the arena often played host to a variety of outdoor shows and concerts, accommodating an impressive audience of up to 25,000 spectators.
Venturing further into Verona's architectural grandeur, we encountered the awe-inspiring Scaligero Bridge. This magnificent structure seamlessly connected Castelvecchio's citadel across the Adige River, presenting an imposing sight that seemed more fortress than bridge. Its architecture exuded an air of grandeur, adding another layer to Verona's already captivating charm.
In Piazza delle Erbe, the Lamberti Tower stood tall and proud, dominating the city's historic center. Ascending the tower rewarded us with a breathtaking panoramic view of Verona, a spectacle that etched itself into our memories, forever associating this landmark with the city's splendor.
With an itinerary spanning just one or two days, one could intimately acquaint themselves with Verona's soul. However, we were fortunate to enjoy a more extended stay—three nights and four days, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the city's essence. We devoted the first and last days to fully experiencing Verona, leaving no stone unturned in our quest to understand its unique character and storied history.
Situated conveniently close to Ponte Nuovo Station, a pivotal railway hub, we seized the opportunity to explore Venice too—a first for each one of us. Accompanied by my adventurous companions, we enthusiastically researched nearby attractions and stumbled upon the renowned Gardaland amusement park, which added an exciting dimension to our Italian adventure, promising thrills and unforgettable memories.
Thrills, Laughter, and Adventure at Gardaland Begins
Mission Accomplished! The much-anticipated day arrived, revealing the iconic Gardaland Theme Park in all its glory. We set our plans into motion, boarding a bus at Ponte Nuovo bus station, conveniently located next to its railway counterpart. Our expedition to Gardaland began with this hour-long bus journey, offering glimpses of the beautiful Italian scenery before delivering us to the very threshold of the park. As we approached the entrance, the air was electrified with the excitement of the bustling crowd awaiting their adventure.
With admission tickets secured, each priced at approximately 48 euros, we stepped into a realm designed to delight children and adults alike. The energy of the park was palpable, fueled by the contagious enthusiasm of fellow visitors. Gardaland had structured its offerings around three engaging themes: Adventure, Adrenaline, and Fantasy, each promising a unique tapestry of experiences.
Navigating through the park, we encountered a whirlwind of attractions that catered to every taste. From heart-pounding adventures to whimsical fantasies, the diverse range of experiences ensured that everyone had a memorable time. The delighted laughter of children and the spirited chatter of families filled the air, blending seamlessly with the sights and sounds of this amusement haven.
Reflecting on the day's escapades, the excitement we felt evoked memories of youthful exuberance. However, as an enthusiast of amusement parks, I found myself drawing comparisons to other renowned venues like Disney and Phantasialand. While Gardaland left an indelible mark with its spirited atmosphere and array of attractions, my personal preference leaned towards the latter for an even more satisfying and enriching experience.
In the grand scheme of our Italian adventure, Gardaland had undoubtedly made its mark, adding a vibrant splash of joy and amusement to our memorable journey.
Venice Up Close: My Personal Encounters with Its Timeless Beauty
On the third day of my Italian adventure, Venice beckoned, and I eagerly embraced the opportunity. Boarding a train at Ponte Nuovo Station, we acquired tickets at a reasonable 10 euros per person, propelling us toward the magical city. In less than two hours, the train arrived at Santa Lucia station, and as we stepped out, we were greeted by an awe-inspiring sight—the ethereal city emerging gracefully from the shimmering waters, an unexpected marvel that left us spellbound.
Promptly, we boarded a boat and secured tickets to Piazza San Marco. As Venice unfolded before us from the vantage of the sea, passing by colossal ships, the architectural defiance against the aquatic expanse etched a lasting impression. Our eyes beheld the grandeur of the Doge's Palace, even though the queues seemed daunting. Opting for a leisurely amble through the city's quaint streets, we surrendered to the enchanting atmosphere of perpetual festivity that enveloped Venice.
Venice is a universe of its own, a day's visit barely scratches the surface of this enigmatic city. However, the charm comes at a cost, a rather hefty one. A casual sip of draft beer at a less touristy spot set me back 10 euros, a vivid reminder of Venice's opulence.
From Piazza San Marco to Santa Lucia Station, we sauntered, admiring the architectural gems and playfully donning the renowned carnival masks. In pursuit of a quintessential Venetian experience, negotiations with gondoliers ensued, initially quoted 85 euros for an hour's ride. Yet, upon discovering our group comprised four adults and two children, their offer promptly adjusted. Opting for an intimate exploration of the narrow, less traversed streets, we escaped the cacophony of eager tourists, immersing ourselves in the genuine essence of this captivating city.
With a return train to Verona scheduled for noon, we bid Venice farewell, fatigued yet exhilarated by our exploits. Despite its brevity, this vacation delivered an intense encounter with various cities. Verona, however, left the most profound mark, a haven of tranquility where I could leisurely savor my morning coffee on a peaceful terrace.
In retrospect, my only regret about this trip to Italy stems from the timing—choosing Easter for travel. Easter is a celebration best enjoyed in the warm embrace of family, a lesson learned and cherished.
