Access to the beach is a bit difficult to find, but following the signs, you can cross a small alley between two private houses to reach this corner of paradise.

7. Kailua Beach Park, Oahu

Among the most beautiful and characteristic beaches of Hawaii, we must also remember the Kailua Beach Park, one of Oahu's most beautiful and largest parks.

8. Waimea Bay, Oahu

On days when the wind is right, Waimea Bay is filled with surfboards and water sports enthusiasts who throw themselves headlong into the challenge of their lives. During the winter in Waimea, you don't swim: you surf. With waves that can reach 12 meters in height, you will be able to see surfers exploring their limits in adrenaline-pumping and simply unforgettable experiences.

Waimea is also equipped with a series of cliffs to climb and dive into the depths of the sea. The highest area towers up to 6 meters higher and offers spectacular diving opportunities for genuinely amazing shots.

9. Waimanalo Beach, Oahu

The beach is the longest on Oahu island and stretches for 5 miles - wow, that's about 8km of white sand and turquoise water. But that's not only one of the pluses that put Waimanalo Beach on the list of our favorite beaches of Hawaii. Waimanalo Bay Beach is not overcrowded, like Waikiki, for example, and there is an excellent view of the Koolau Mountains from the beach.

There are toilets with showers and a large car park on the beach. Buses go directly from Waikiki to Waimanalo Bay Beach, and the journey takes about 45 minutes. This beach is great for swimmers as there are hardly any currents. The beach itself is exactly how you imagine a classic dream beach: endlessly long, fine-grained, white, gently sloping into an almost ridiculous turquoise sea.

For the sake of convenience, the majority of Hawaiian resort visitors stay on the on-site beach, so you have the vast expanse of Waimanalo Beach almost to yourself.

10. Makapuu Beach, Oahu

One of the most scenic beaches in Hawaii is Oahu's Makapu'u Beach - a crescent-shaped lagoon embedded in the remains of a nearly 200-meter-high ridge that rises like a cliff above the sandy beach and thus offers an incredibly picturesque backdrop.

On particularly clear days, you can even see the island of Maui from Makapu'u Beach, and between November and April, if you are lucky, humpback whales will show up in the waters off the coast. The beach is bordered on the left and right by stony ground, along whose rocky shores there are so-called "blowholes" that are active now and then and express themselves in spectacular water fountains.

If one of the high surf waves hits the mouth of such an underwater cave, the water flows like a funnel along an underground channel and ends in one of these water spectacles - sometimes even reinforced by accompanying noises. Even on days when there are no humpback whales, Maui views, or blowhole spectacles, give Makapu'u Beach a try.

11. Punaluu Black Sand Beach, Big Island

One of my all-time favorite spots on the Big Island of Hawaii is Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. It is located south of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and is one of the most famous black sand beaches in Hawaii. The volcanic beach is lined with coconut palms, so you can always find a shady spot. Punaluʻu Beach is undoubtedly not a swimmer's paradise. Those with sensitive feet will have to wear shoes because the sand is made up of fragments of lava rock that can cause minor cuts.

Furthermore, the seabed is rocky and strong currents cross the rough sea. The absence of lifeguards suggests a conservative attitude when facing the sea of ​​Punaluʻu Beach; however, with the appropriate precautions and a particular caution, you can enjoy its uniqueness without giving up entertainment. There is a picnic area near the beach, where you can have a snack and several toilets. After having lunch, you can opt for a siesta in the shade of the giant palm trees, also considering that the black sand becomes very hot in the sunlight, as its color attracts and imprisons the heat.

On the other hand, those who want to cool off can take advantage of a freshwater swimming pool. Punaluʻu Beach is known for its freshwater springs; there are also many offshore. This is one of the most incredible features of this beach, which is also linked to a legend that gave rise to the beach's name. The freshwater mixes with the salty one rising to the surface, as it is less dense. It is colder than the marine one, so swimming encounters currents with different temperatures, warm and cold ones.

Punalu'u Beach is a great place to snorkel, especially at Ninole Cove, southwest of the beach. The bay is protected by sand channels that form a natural and safe corridor to dive into the ocean safely. Ninole Cove can be reached by car, parking near the Sea Mountain Golf Course; however, the advice is to get there on foot, taking a short hike.

12. Papakolea Beach, Big Island

One beach that you definitely shouldn't miss on your Big Island trip is Papakōlea Beach. The entire United States of America is home to only two "green" beaches - and Papakōlea is one of them. The Green Sand Beach of Hawaii is located in the very south of the island. It is embedded in a breathtakingly beautiful bay with steep cliffs that belong to the foothills of the Mauna Loa volcano. The volcanic sand contains green crystals (olivine), which give the beach its name and make it shine dark green, especially in sunlight.

You have to hike from the parking lot (one way) about four kilometers to Papakōlea Green Sand Beach. The hike is not difficult, but there is absolutely no shade, so a hat is essential.

13. Kukio Bay, Big Island

Kukio Bay is north of Kikaua Point Beach Park on the Kohala Coast. You can get to the beach through the gate of the Four Seasons Hualalai Resort. Since all beaches in Hawaii have to be open to the public, you can get a day pass for your car here.

The beautiful white sandy beach awaits you with coconut palms and lava rocks shaped into small pools in the water. The lava can also be quite pointed, so I would recommend water shoes to you. There are showers and toilets on-site and, thanks to the palm trees, at least a little shade. You should bring plenty of water, snacks, and a hat, as it often gets incredibly hot on the west side of the island.

A visit in the late afternoon and at sunset is particularly recommended. You can watch giant rays in the waves that swim near the shore for dinner with a bit of patience.

14. Makalawena Beach, Big Island

Makalawena Beach is a white sand beach located along the west coast of the Big Island. Due to its geographical characteristics, it is considered one of the best beaches Hawaii has in the archipelago; it is surrounded by impressive rocks of lava origin that make access to the bay at least a little complicated.

There is no type of service available, and it is, therefore, necessary to organize yourself well before departure. Makalawena Beach is about a quarter of an hour north of Kona Airport. Since some pointed lava rocks are waiting for you here, I would not recommend the route with a regular car. Alternatively, you can park on the neighboring beach or Highway 19 and then walk the distance.

Because Makalawena Beach in Hawaii is relatively difficult to reach (even with an SUV, you have to walk a few minutes in the end), it remains relatively empty even on the weekend. Incidentally, it belongs to the Kekaha Kai State Park. So if you're already there, you can also explore the neighboring beaches of Mahaiula Beach and Manini'owali Beach. There are no showers or toilets at Makalawena Beach, and you have to bring your own food. But you can expect many beautiful palm trees that provide shade even on hot days.

When the water is calm, the beach is perfect for snorkeling - there is a lot to see on the lava rocks. But be careful: there is no lifeguard, and the current can be relatively strong.

15. Poipu Beach, Kauai Island

Poipu Beach is located south of Kauai and is very well known. I advise you to leave early because the famous beach is very crowded in the afternoon. A perfect beach for snorkelers because you can watch great fish species through the rocks. However, at high tide, the current can become very strong. The bay is surf and sun-safe and therefore great for family outings. Turtles and the Monk Seals like to sunbathe on Poipu Beach.

Many tourists come here on holiday to watch the sunsets over the crystal clear waters of Poipu and then relax on the beach or take part in some water sports while relaxing in the shade. If you are looking for a beach holiday that is unlike anything else you have experienced, this could well be the one for you. You can choose to stay on the beach itself or take part in a guided tour around the area - there are several companies around who will help arrange a trip for you.

16. Hulopoe Bay Beach, Lanai Island

This is a large collection of rugged, fossilized coral reefs supported by a series of overhanging cliffs.

There is another reef facility with a smaller number of rocky shelves and ledges at the far end of the bay, but it is not as established and more challenging to access than the main site.

17. Makena Beach

Along the southwestern coast of the island of Maui is Makena Beach: a beautiful moon beach over a kilometer nestled between two black lava tongues, where tourists can snorkel in the pristine water.

However, it should be noted that these conditions occur in the morning when the sea is calm and the winds are absent. Kamaole Beach Park is a collection of three famous beaches of Hawaii. Rocky points delineate the boundaries of the three beaches at two ends of the beach.

If you like long walks on the beach or running, you can start from both ends of Kama O1.
Kam 2 is a wide sandy beach, perfect for swimming. This is the favorite part of the locals and certainly the least crowded of the coast.

23. The Red Beach of Kaihalulu

Hana's red beach in Hawaii is a paradise for the eyes that will be enchanted to see such a marvel. It looks like a very rare jewel guarded and protected from prying eyes and therefore never crowded. To get here, you need to take a steep path that is hardly marked at all.

We recommend that you park on the side of the road next to the Hana Community Center field: cross the downtown lawn looking for a path on the right. The route was recently signposted, but the vegetation overgrows so that it may change! The path, although short-lived, is slippery due to dust and pine needles, is often exposed and in some places dangerous: be very careful and go down with extreme caution.

The crescent-shaped beach is carved deep into the cone of Ka'uiki Head crater, whose rust-colored lava rock cliffs provide the beach with its red sand. These crumbly ash cliffs rise almost vertically but somehow remain intact at impressive heights. The bay is protected on the ocean side by a jagged black lava rock wall, further contributing to this almost otherworldly scene.

Beware of the sea: here, the waves are impetuous and break on the rocks that emerge a few steps from the shore.

This beach is an extremely rare natural spectacle. In fact, in addition to this tropical island, this phenomenon is only present in Norway and the Galapagos Islands. A peculiarity that few people know is the reason why the grains of sand have assumed, over thousands of years, the peculiar green color.

The emerald color derives from the strong presence of a substance called olivine inside the rock of which the slopes, the base, and the crater of the volcano are composed. This mineral, inside, has a high concentration of magnesium and iron. The mineral that gives Papakolea beach its green color originates from the Pu'u Mahana volcano located a few meters in front of the beach.

Basically, the ocean waves carry out a slight erosive action on the volcano's slopes, dragging the olivine mentioned above towards the shore, giving the beach its green color. Even considering that the volcano has not been active for 49 thousand years (the last eruption of which we have news), the upper part of the crater collapsed, allowing these minerals (this part is relatively rich in olivine) to dissolve in the ocean waters.

Papakolea Beach is also a place much loved by water sports enthusiasts and those who like to meditate, avoiding tourist beaches even on an island like this.
In fact, Papakolea beach is quite difficult to reach if you do not know the right roads or do not turn to organized groups or tour operators who can plan a trip or an excursion. 27. Kekaha Kai Beach Park

Last of the best beaches Hawaii offers, is the impressive Kekaha Kai Beach Park located along the northern coast of the city of Kona and extends for a good 7.2 km between Mahai'ula Bay and Kua Bay; in fact, its name derives from the words, in the Hawaiian language, Kekaha Kai which literally means 'coastline.'

It includes several beaches like Mahai'ula Beach, Makalawena Beach, and Manini'owali Beach (Kua Bay). Kekaha Kai Beach Park is the ideal place for all lovers of water sports. You can go snorkeling to admire the many fish that populate the waters or have fun, if the marine weather conditions allow it, by surfing. The latter is practiced mainly during the winter months, but sometimes the weather conditions can be very adverse, and the currents become very intense.

This large stretch of coastline includes suggestive pristine beaches that lend themselves to excursions of various kinds: remember to bring all the necessary equipment with you, including suitable shoes, water bottles, and high protection sunscreen. The best entrance to Kekaha Beach Park is 12 miles (about 19km) north of Kona. The road is in good condition and is paved; there are also other ways of accessing the area, but the road surface is not optimal.

For the occasion, therefore, you must rely on a car rental agency; read the stipulated contract very carefully because there may be some clauses prohibiting the use of unpaved road sections. Once at your destination, park your car in the large parking lot and start your tour (local authorities invite all visitors not to leave any valuables inside the vehicle).

The park is open every day, from 8.00 to 19.00, except on Wednesdays when maintenance of the structures is carried out; admission is entirely free. All sites are accessible to people with disabilities and equipped with picnic tables, waste bins, and public toilets; however, there are no drinking water sources and refreshment points; therefore, it is up to you to organize yourself.
